DENISE WYLLIE Attends Royal Academy Summer Exhibition
Denise Wyllie’s Into the Renaissance Garden screen print passed all selection stages for this year’s RA Summer Exhibition. There were 12,000 submissions from 5,000 artists with only 1,500 selected.
In keeping with RA custom, she had previously attended the official Service for Artists at St. James’s Church, Piccadilly and also the Varnishing Day to meet the other artists. The private view was on June 7 with the official opening for the public on June 10.
Regarding her successful submission, Denise says: “Into the Renaissance Garden is a handmade original print I have evolved from painting outside, responding to the landscape. Since 2017 I have been lucky to paint cherry blossom/sakura in Japan in the spring and the gardens of David Austin’s Roses, England, in the summer. Painting enables me to capture the play of light and nature’s energy with lively brush marks. Printmaking frees me to apply a reflective and experimental approach resulting in exciting variations.”
